Hatchet 3 is the 2013 horror film of the Hatchet series. It is a follow-up to Victor Crowley's murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, and Rileah Vanderbilt in the role of Misty.
The practical effects in the film are the film's greatest strengths. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects in a lesser degree than other films. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some really horrific scenes throughout the film.
Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble, and he's an intimidating villain. The dialogue is hilarious and smart enough to make it feel like an 80s slasher film. There are moments of humor throughout the film which add humour to bloody action.
Unfortunately, the film's budget was restricted to just $1 million. That means many locations (blog) featured in the film are re-used from earlier films. A boat house is featured twice and most of the scenes feel like they're recycled from previous films. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like the film is familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was an enjoyable series. I liked the gory thrills it provided as well as the engaging performances by its cast members.
